Weekly Learning Review : Week Ending: 1st of February 2018

Weekly Learning Review

Class:  4A&4B      Week Ending: 1/2/2018
Spelling: This week’s  spelling words  were all about contractions. Spelling words were revised on quizlet. Here is the link for extra practice:
Reading Comprehension:  Students can identify the difference between genres (fantasies and science fiction). Together, we read the passage Goodbye Earth and discussed where the story is set. Discussions were based on why certain words have been used and the effect of certain sentence openings, powerful verbs and short sentences. The class was divided into groups of three to role play or mime the action from Goodbye Earth and what they think might happen next; two of the children acted out the scene and the third is the “director”. The purpose of this activity was to encourage clear characterization by the use of gesture and expression when reading any future texts.
Creative Writing: Students developed and refined ideas in writing through planning. They used settings and characterization to engage readers’ interest. They also showed imagination through the language used to create atmosphere or suspense. Students can clarify meanings and point of view by using varied sentence structure.
Grammar: Students learned how to change singular nouns into plural.
The novel, ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl: We covered chapters 9 and 10. Students identified and used exaggeration in storytelling. Here is the link for extra vocabulary words to practice:

3D Shapes: 3D shapes have faces, vertices and edges.  Students are able to identify 3D shapes. As an activity, students made paper models for fun visual learning.
